Just to share

And for me to rememeber and reflect upon as I'm feeling disconnected and lsot spiritually this past year and a half.

Searching for God
Read 1 Kings 19:11-13

The LORD says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

-Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)
THE waves drenched us as the whale-watching boat pitched, but I was having the time of my life enjoying a boat trip along the Oregon coast. I scanned the surface of the water for a glimpse of the touted gray whale. Would I see a fountain-like spout or a flurry of spray from the slap of a mammoth tail? I didn't know what to expect, but I was sure it would be magnificent.

After an hour's tour, we shuffled back to our room. We were on the balcony overlooking the ocean, nursing our disappointment, when a small spray of water announced the presence of a whale. No fountain of water, or leap from the surface announced the whale's presence, but the moment thrilled my heart.

I was reminded of Elijah desperately looking for a mighty God in the wind, quaking earth, and fire, only to find God instead in a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12). How often do we look for the spectacular, only to discover that God was with us in the ordinary all the time, waiting to be found? We can hear God's voice in a phone call from a friend. We see God's concern in Bible verses that guide us in daily situations. We feel God's touch comforting us in dark nights. We see God revealed quietly in our lives.

Amen to that! I loved this post of yours. I'm getting ready to write an entry, later today or tomorrow, about my spiritual retreat I just took to the monastery with the sisters. Thanks for the scripture references - reminds me to find God in everyday events as well. We can ALL use the reminder. Blessings and peace to you, Rebecca.
